There's no such thing as "routine" legal work for municipal clients. New challenges are emerging all the time -- and when they do, dozens of cities and towns have turned to Anderson & Kreiger for assistance. Our expertise includes:
Representing clients in complex real estate transactions. We successfully represented a major Massachusetts city in its potential acquisition of roadways, infrastructure and open space land for a major mixed-use brownfields redevelopment.
Providing guidance on infrastructure development projects. Among many assignments, we represented a city in the development of a solar energy facility and the negotiation of a long-term water supply contract from a new desalinization plant.
Advising on complex zoning issues. Our municipal practice team represented a city in a complex zoning dispute concerning a major college expansion project.
Mounting legal challenges at the state level. Anderson & Kreiger represented 14 Massachusetts cities and towns in the successful challenge to the state’s refusal to allow municipal clerks to issue marriage licenses to same-sex, out-of-state residents.
Drafting effective new local statutes. We have written innovative zoning and non-zoning bylaws to incorporate new strategies for resource protection, conservation of open space, and many other local concerns.
Providing leadership on environmental issues. We represented a group of cities and towns in complex cost recovery actions involving former solid and hazardous waste disposal sites. Anderson & Kreiger also represented a town in complex state and federal litigation involving the MWRA sewage treatment plant at Deer Island.
Addressing inter-jurisdictional disputes. We helped a city defend its public water supply reservoir from the potential adverse effects of commercial development in an abutting city.
